Idle Football Club Win

Idle Football Club were the winners of the Newlands Community Invitation Village Cup. They were awarded the Shelley Carroll Trophy at the award ceremony held at the Prince of Wales, Harrogate Road.

Idle, new to the competition, took the honours with a 5-2 win over Victoria Rangers in the final of the Newlands Community Association Village Cup at Rawdon Meadows.

Vics took the lead through Damian Cowling and Luke Firth actually increased their lead before youngster Sean McVay pulled one back on the half-hour mark.

But Idle were the best side throughout and proved it after the break with a brace from man-of-the-tournament Jamie Bairstow, plus further strikes by Damian Rushworth and Dave Bairstow.

Sales of programmes and the raffle helped to raise £500 which this year was donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
